No Good Reason by Cari Hunter

It’s been a while since I won this. I think it was at Hootenanny which is a totally awesome, totally magical Xmas/winter holiday giveaway over at Women and Words. Yes, I got a big ol’ pile of books that I keep pushing in front of me, but sometimes I pick one up and enjoy.

This one, I really really REALLY enjoyed, because it’s really really REALLY good.

What’s it about, you ask? Let me synopse (i know that’s not a word, but don’t you think it should be?):

Sanne (think: San-ner) Jensen is a copper with the EDSOP Manchester. She’s still a newbie, but she’s got chops which help her with her newest case. A woman had been abducted, drugged and held somewhere close Sanne’s favorite running trail. The woman could escape but fell off a ridge where Sanne finds her.

Due to her injuries, the woman can’t really help the police but slowly and surely, the police are closing in on a suspect. Sanne isn’t really sure if they’re looking at the right guy, but as things progress that’s not even their only problem.

I don’t wanna spoil anything ’cause there’re some twists and stuff. It’s a really good thriller with some really likable characters. The heart of the story, though, is the friendship between Sanne and her best friend Meg Fielding who’s a doctor. Meg is Sanne’s emotional anchor and vice versa. They work well together as Meg is one of the young woman’s physicians.

No Good Reason binds some of my favorite things together: friendship, a nail-biting criminal case, women being there for each other, and some dicks who get schooled. Hunter writes strong women but she also makes them vulnerable, dorky, and a pleasure to spend time with.

I think I found a new favorite and you too should check it out. But only if you like good books. So… keep reading, mates.
